Renewable Ocean Energy
Devices that can be deployed in the ocean to harvest renewable energy appear in 5 pages (p. 16-20) plus a feature article (p. 26-27) in the June 2010 issue.
While not specifically about the Pacific Northwest, the relevance cannot be ignored. The northwest is already famous for its hydropower, and there has been more than just talk about the tidal energy in Puget Sound and the high-energy environment off the northwest coast.
In this issue, offshore wind farms are maybe the highest profile characters, but there are descriptions of devices to harvest energy from tidal currents and nearshore waves.
